New 2ND Capital hires secondaries Young Gun

The firm, founded by former AlpInvest Partners secondaries head Tjarko Hektor, has hired a vice-president from HQ Capital.

New 2ND Capital has continued to expand with the hire of an investment professional from HQ Capital.

The New York-headquartered firm, founded by former AlpInvest Partners head of secondaries Tjarko Hektor, hired Kevin Nowaskey from HQ Capital as a vice-president, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

It is understood Nowaskey will start on 1 July.

He ranked eighth in Secondaries Investor‘s Young Guns of Secondaries list of the most impressive industry professionals under 36 in 2017. At the time he was a vice-president at Partners Group and had originated around $1 billion worth of dealflow at the firm within three years.

He joined HQ Capital in March last year to focus on secondaries and global fundraising, Secondaries Investor reported.

HQ Capital’s secondaries team co-heads Christian Munafo and Chris Lawrence departed in mid-June. Pantheon principals Ben Wilson and Alec Brown have since joined HQ Capital as leading members of its secondaries team.

New 2ND Capital held the final close on its debut secondaries fund in March, Secondaries Investor reported. New 2ND Capital Fund I raised $294 million, exceeding its target of $250 million.

The firm plans to hire at least two associates within the next month, according to one of the sources. It is understood the firm has completed seven deals so far.

The firm declined to comment. A spokesman for HQ Capital declined to comment.
