Glendower taps Debevoise for general counsel hire

Glendower Capital has hired a private funds focused lawyer from Debevoise & Plimpton as its general counsel.

Tom Hodge was previously a senior associate and will lead the in-house legal and compliance function, a spokeswoman for the London-headquartered secondaries firm told Secondaries Investor.

“Tom brings a wealth of experience in the private funds space and we have worked closely with Tom during his tenure at Debevoise for a number of years, so we welcomed the opportunity for him to officially join the firm,” COO and partner Deirdre Davies said.

He joined in June, according to his LinkedIn profile. At Debevoise he as a member of the investment management team, advising sponsors on fund formation, transactional, regulatory and operational matters. Hodge had worked on formation of the Glendower team’s previous secondaries funds and deals.

Glendower is seeking $2.5 billion for Glendower Capital Secondary Opportunities Fund IV, its first fund since spinning out of Deutsche Asset Management, now named DWS, in 2017.

It had collected $2 billion for the fund as of December, Secondaries Investor reported. Investors include Public School Retirement System of the City of St. Louis and Montgomery County Public Schools Pension Fund, according to Secondaries Investor data.

In March, the firm acquired a portfolio of private equity stakes from Swiss National Accident Insurance Institution, including funds managed by 3i Group and Bridgepoint.
